GAME ONE

Currently in the bottom of the third inning, the Joes trail the Copperheads 3-0.  Starter Chuck Ghysels began the game by striking out the side, but since then he has had trouble staying ahead of hitters and giving up walks.  He also balked in a run.

One highlight so far is co-captain Jimmy Brenneman who extended his hitting streak to six games with a lead off single in the bottom of the first inning.

Top 4

Ghysels retires the side with little effort by way of a strikeout, ground out, and pop-up. S.O. still leads 3-0.

Bottom 4

Copperheads starter Seth Streich retires Patrick Curtin and Tyler McIntyre quickly for two outs.

Then, just when it looked like the Joes were going to go down quietly, catcher Josh Jeffery and second baseman Robby Buckley followed with back-to-back singles to put runners on 1st & 3rd.

Wes Minton came up next and was plunked on the hand to load up the bases.

Next up, James Sheltrown comes through in the clutch with a single up the middle to knock in the first run of the game for the Joes.

That brings up Brenneman and he strikes out looking to end the inning. 3-1 Copperheads.

End of Game

The rest of the game went by quickly as the Copperheads cruised to the 3-1 victory in game one.

WP: Seth Streich (1-1)

LP: Chuck Ghysels (1-2)

S: Zach Botjer (2)
